First, a big THANK YOU to Peter McCracken for organizing the cruise!

Some description of the cruise photos is in order so here goes: 1. Commodore Cliff (his new radio call sign on the cruise) hangs the Summer Cruise 09 HYC burgee (made and provided to all boats by Heidi Bishop) in the Burgee Pub, Coveside Rest., Christmas Cove. 2. Dinner at Coveside (we were referred to the next day as “That table that was having so much fun”-which was perhaps a polite translattion for being somewhat obnoxiously loud?. 3.Allegra’s (our boat’s) cockpit stuffed with fun folks 4. Testing the bouyancy capacity of our hull design at maximum cocktailage! (is that a word???) – taken by an amazed neighboring boat), Christmas Cove. 5. A very special foggy night dinner at Lev Daivis’s house on Harbor Island- a really special treat, this home is over 150 years old and a living museum. THANK YOU LEV!

    The play by play:
The cruise started on a stormy day. Heidi and I aboard Allegra went out late after the worst had passed and made Snow Island. We were the only ones nuts enough to go that day- others were smarter…Day 2 held a gorgeous sailing day for all to make Chrismas Cove. Mr. McCracken deftly negotiated a spot in the sold out mooring field when told all were taken, by reminding the Coveside (mooring owner rest.) that he had dinner reservations for 16, which resulted in an un flapped response “Take mooring 14 Sir”. We had 6 boats and a great time! Much more fun continued on the deck under an amazing canopy of stars. Sunday dawned thick with fog which never really let up so only 3 boats (Ourselves, The Hancocks aboard Revel and The Kents aboard Fred L Baker made Harbor Island, though it was well worth it despite the 50 ft visibility!. As the Hancocks and Kents continued to Pulpit Harbor Monday, we headed to Boothbay and broke out of the sharpest fogbank wall I’ve ever seen at Ocean point- it was blinding! As the sole cruise survivors we were treated to a fine homeward run from Boothbay with winds clocking to allow dead down wing on wing from Eagle Island right into the harbor- a real treat. We hope to build the cruise fleet next year and will definitely be there!
