Summer is flying by and the Sailing Program for session one is now complete. Here is an overview of Session One that Director Frank Pizzo has but together: First Session HYC.

HYC Regatta Results

I just wanted to write a quick message to thank everyone who participated in the 2010 HYC Regatta. We had a good breeze for 2/3 of the race and then the rain clouds sucked the wind out of the bay. We did have to call the race at 4pm with only 5 class A boats finished. In all we had 19 boats participate and I hope all had a good day regardless of the way the race ended.

Thank you to Bill & Mary Foster, Peter Gerquest, Sandy Dickison, Bill Ginn, Eliza Ginn, Faith Baker, Spencer Drake, Sandi Colburn & the Rices for helping to make this regatta go this year!

Thursday Night Races and Cookout

On Thursdays throughout the program, we will hold races in the 420s and Optimists for anyone in the program. Parents are encouraged to sail with their sailors. For those with Lasers, we are more than willing to have a separate Laser start. We will have a skippers meeting each Thursday at 4:45 and racing generally concludes around 6:30. 420 Race Coach Eric Schwarm will be running the races. If you or your sailors would like to participate, either sign up on the sign up sheet outside the kitchen at the club or send me an email. These informal races are a great way to spend some time with your sailors on the water this summer.

There will be a cookout after racing each Thursday. Katie Drake will be running the cookout. We supply burgers, hot dogs, plates, utensils, and condiments. It is up to the sailors to bring salads, sides, and desserts. You can sign up to bring these food items on the sign up outside the kitchen at the club or you can send me an email.

2010 HYC Cruise July 30th – Aug 2nd – Update

Here is the latest Cruise Update:

We have nine boats signed up for the HYC cruise and the names have been given to the manager of the Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club for mooring reservations. BHYC will reserve the moorings for us but to be sure you are on their list, you need to let Peter McCracken know no later than July 2^nd. There is also a signup sheet on the bulletin board. We have an exciting cruise scheduled, and this year we have ordered clear weather, fair winds, and following seas. We hope to add more boats this year, so plan early. The timing is perfect as a starting point to kick off continuation of down east cruises.

Sailing Program gearing up- join us!

Greetings everyone!
The 2010 Youth Sailing Program at HYC will be beginning next Monday with the start of Session 1. As you may have seen at the HYC website, we have a great team of Instructors this year. Headed by our Director, Frank Pizzo, they all gathered this morning to begin planning and gearing up. Enrollment is close to full for the first session with a few more spots to fill for the second session which starts July 19th.

The team is excited to be working with a larger group of Skippers and Racers compared to last year. These Skippers and Racers will be utilizing five new Club 420’s as part of our collective commitment to the Program’s success. Replacing our long-serving fleet of JY15’s, the Club’s older 420’s will be re-rigged as RAD 420’s for teaching the Mates and Recruits. What is a RAD 420? It’s a Club 420 except the mainsail is smaller and the rig controls are simplified. Combined with our fleet of Optimist prams and our skilled Instructors, the goals for sailors in both Recruits and Mates will be met.
On 5-6 August, we’ll be hosting the 6th Annual HYC Youth Regatta which for the second year running, will also be the venue for the 420 State of Maine Championships. There’s going to be a lot going on this summer and we want you to join in and help out.

Please email Frank Pizzo at sailingprogram.hyc@gmail.com, as he and the team need help on several fronts; most immediately with set up chores this week, then, Thursday night races, Big Boat Days, etc.

Bentley and Brenda Collins will be coordinating this year’s Youth Regatta and there will be more details to follow. Please email Bentley at Bentley@sabreyachts.com. This is a big event and the racers’s really enjoy visiting HYC, as you saw in the past few years so join in again!

The annual HYC Regatta is coming up soon! On June 26th HYC will be holding their annual pursuit race and party. Please register early! This race format requires starting times to be calculated prior to the day of the race so we cannot accept late entries. For registration info and Sailing Instructions, click on HYC Regatta .
